Today we welcomed Steph and Krystina from @Dental2you for a visit to check our little teeth and do some preventative cleaning. They will be back tomorrow to finish off their bookings! The children were very impressed with their sticker choice after they had completed their appointment.

Exploring Country
What seemed like a gloomy, rainy day, evolved into a fascinating exploration of country.
Testing out our new Bush kindy raincoats, we ventured outside for a spot of bird watching.
Building relationships, while investigating the natural landscape, are just some of the benefits our bush kindy curriculum supports and scaffolds.
Contributing their thoughts and ideas, the children shared that “The small puddles provided water for the birds”. - Mason
Outcome 2 - Children are connected with and contribute to their world 🌎

Caring for country
Today our bush kindy space provided the children with the opportunities to learn about the significance of ‘Caring for country.’
Following a discussion about the negative impact that litter has on our Flora, fauna and wildlife, our eco warriors set out to clean their beloved Bush Kindy environment.
Intrigued by various plants and trees, Miss Jenn has now downloaded an app, which provides information surrounding the variety of tree/plant and care instructions.
Outcome 2 - Children become socially responsible and show respect for the environment

Anaphylactic Medical Drill
Our continued dedication to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all children led us to conduct another medical drill.
An anaphylactic reaction can result in a life threatening emergency, where all Educators need to ensure their crucial thinking skills are sharp, swift and precise.
A huge thank you to our lovely Alexandra, who allowed her Educators and management team to practice how to best administer the EpiPen.
A proactive approach to minimise complacency and boost confidence throughout.
Quality area 2 - Children’s health and safety
Disclosure - The EpiPen used is a certified training device.

Kitchen
Little Locals Richlands employs a qualified Chef to provide healthy and nutritious meals for all of the children. All the meals are prepared onsite and are planned in alignment with the Nutrition Australia Guidelines. We offer a 4-week rotational menu for each season of the year to ensure that children are provided and exposed to a variety of different food groups.
We are committed to supporting local so where possible we have partnered with local green grocers, fruit shops and butchers to source our supplies. We will create edible gardens for our Chef to access and they are also part of our day to day educational programs with our children.
Brisbane City Council monitors our Kitchen annually along with a private auditor and we currently hold a 5 Star Rating in alignment with the Eat Safe program.
Our outdoor eatery creates a homely feel for children at meal times. It’s a time for conversation, role modelling, nurturing healthy habits and trying new flavours!

At Little Locals we want to take as much hassle away as possible and that is why we include all meals, nappies, wipes, excursions, and extra curriculum activities (language programs, Pilates etc) in the daily fee.
Here at Little Locals we believe that our children will benefit most from improved sustainability practices so we are always ensuring that we provide children with support and ways in which they can learn to care and show respect for the environment. At Little Locals we teach children how to care for our environment by helping to recycle all cardboard, paper and plastic containers. Our centre also encourages children to develop a bond with the natural environment through gardening, sorting, observing, creating and participating in a program that utilize natural mediums.

We know that the happiness of our children and families starts with our people who are passionate and dedicated to nurturing and developing children. That’s why we invest in and retain extraordinary people. We have an amazing team of early childhood professionals who are either studying or hold a Bachelor, Diploma, or Certificate III in child-related studies. They also have current first aid qualifications and regularly participate in professional development opportunities to further enhance their skills and provide the best opportunities and experiences for the children in our care. In addition, our staff have annual child protection, food safety and fire safety training. All members of staff hold current blue cards.
As you are your child’s first teacher, you know best so when it comes to saying goodbye, rest time routines, settling techniques, etc, we want to be made aware of what works for you and your family at home. Our teachers and educators will ask you for your advice and input and will also in return provide you with this information. At Little Locals we provide an open-door policy as communication is the key to any great relationship so please do not hesitate to ask any questions or provide feedback.
In addition, we provide access to Story Park, an interactive space where you can see what your children are up to. On the Story Park App, you can access your child’s profile along with photos and activity updates for collaborative, learning fun!
It is natural that you and your child will be anxious to start with, especially if they haven’t been in care before. A child’s first day will almost certainly include nerves, excitement and often, a few tears. Follow our post on what you can expect on your child’s first day as well as a few suggestion to make the transition easier. To remove as many hassles as possible for busy parents, the centre provides, nappies, wipes, sunscreen, and all meals. We ask that you simply bring along; 2 x changes of clothes, a hat, a water bottle and sheets for rest time. We understand goodbyes can be hard for all involved; read our post for advice on Separation Anxiety and saying goodbye.
Absolutely! As part of our commitment to learning, we conduct excursions out of the centre to follow on children’s interests. Prior to any excursion taking place, parents will be advised in writing with all the required information about the planned excursion. Excursions are included in the daily fee.
