Classrooms tailored to your child’s learning needs

Nursery and Toddlers
(0 ~ 3 yrs)

In our infant and toddler classrooms we encompass a family like environment for our youngest children. Our infant and toddler holistic wellbeing is of upmost importance at Little Locals Richlands. We provide a respectful environment that is rich in learning possibilities and provides a safe space for our children to unfold naturally in their own space and time. Our mission is to grow competent and confident learners that are secure in their sense of belonging and socialising with others. Classrooms include Junior Toddler 1, Junior Toddler 2, Senior Toddler 1 and Senior Toddler 2.

Junior Kindy
(3 ~ 4 yrs)

In our junior kindergarten classrooms we provide a safe learning environment whilst preparing children to transition to Kindergarten. Each individual child is unique in their own way and we understand that all children learn differently. We believe our environment acts as the third teacher and we set up inviting provocations that provoke thought and wonder for our children to extend their current interests on a deeper level. Through play based learning we develop their emotional, cognitive and social capabilities, at the same time empowering children to express ideas and make connections.

Kindergarten (4 ~ 5 yrs)

Our Kindergarten room is managed by university-trained Early Childhood Teachers, specializing in the Early Years. The program is delivered in alignment with the Queensland Kindergarten Guidelines and Early Years Framework. We provide experiences which allow children opportunities to develop a range of skills, knowledge and dispositions for learning that we believe will set them up for life long learning. We aim to provide children with opportunities that will allow them to:

  • Be intellectually challenged and engaged
  • Collaborate with their Teachers, Educators, and other children (through discussions, interactions, enquiry, and planning of their own ideas)
  • Take ownership and responsibility for what they are generally interested in and have accomplished
  • Experience pride and satisfaction when problem solving for overcoming obstacles and challenges
  • Apply their own learning through purposeful and playful ways
  • Develop a sense of belonging to both Little Locals and the wider community

Kitchen

Little Locals Richlands employs a qualified Chef to provide healthy and nutritious meals for all of the children. All the meals are prepared onsite and are planned in alignment with the Nutrition Australia Guidelines. We offer a 4-week rotational menu for each season of the year to ensure that children are provided and exposed to a variety of different food groups.

We are committed to supporting local so where possible we have partnered with local green grocers, fruit shops and butchers to source our supplies. We will create edible gardens for our Chef to access and they are also part of our day to day educational programs with our children.

Brisbane City Council monitors our Kitchen annually along with a private auditor and we currently hold a 5 Star Rating in alignment with the Eat Safe program.

Our outdoor eatery creates a homely feel for children at meal times. It’s a time for conversation, role modelling, nurturing healthy habits and trying new flavours!

Centre Manager - Crystal Pawley

I started my Early Childhood career 10 years ago. I believe that children are inquisitive and capable learners. Through meaningful relationships with Educators and by providing access to natural, positive environments we can help children become the inquisitive, capable learners they are destined to be.

And with regular contact with the natural world, we can support children’s mental, emotional and physical health and well-being. The best part is that we can do all of that whilst having fun!! I am particularly excited to establish our Bush Kindy program and observe the wonders and discoveries that our Little Locals will make.

I look forward to meeting and welcoming you and your children to our Little Locals Richlands Community!

I’d like to know more about sustainability at Little Locals2021-11-23T06:45:55+10:00

Little Locals proud to be one of the few Carbon Neutral Early Learning groups in QLD (learn more here). We believe that our children will benefit most from improved sustainability practices so we are always ensuring that we provide children with support and ways in which they can learn to care and show respect for the environment. At Little Locals we teach children how to care for our environment by helping to recycle all cardboard, paper and plastic containers. Our centre also encourages children to develop a bond with the natural environment through gardening, sorting, observing, creating and participating in a program that utilize natural mediums.

What are your staff qualifications and requirements?2021-11-23T06:36:53+10:00

We know that the happiness of our children and families starts with our people who are passionate and dedicated to nurturing and developing children. That’s why we invest in and retain extraordinary people. We have an amazing team of early childhood professionals who are either studying or hold a Bachelor, Diploma, or Certificate III in child-related studies. They also have current first aid qualifications and regularly participate in professional development opportunities to further enhance their skills and provide the best opportunities and experiences for the children in our care. We ask that you simply bring along; 2 x changes of clothes, a hat, a water bottle and sheets for rest time. We understand goodbyes can be hard for all involved; read our post for advice on Separation Anxiety and saying goodbye.
